Dailly's Smart Meter Crisis Threatens Green Future

Residents asked to share mixed experiences with Green Energy.

Dailly, historically a coal mining village, has never had access to mainline gas.

Therefore, over recent years, there has been government funding offered to encourage residents to change from coal or oil to heat pumps and solar panels, which help offset the running cost of the heat pump.

These measures, combined with an appropriate smart tariff, would not only be greener but also energy efficient, and heating costs would actually be reduced.

I have personally seen a significant reduction in heating and electricity costs since installing my heat pump and solar panels.

This is significantly due to being able to access a 'smart tariff' via a 'smart meter'.

However, it is my understanding that this has not been everybody's experience within the village of Dailly.

The newer meters being installed do not receive the 4G signal required to deliver 30-minute readings to access the smart tariff.

The electricity companies are aware that the smart meters do not work, and advise that this would only change if the phone companies boost the signal.

Unfortunately, in the not-too-distant future, the older meters that do work will also be replaced, resulting in the loss of signal to operate.

If I could ask our residents who have installed a heat pump and solar panels to contact me and let me know if their smart meter works or not.

I need a clearer indication of how many people have been affected by this problem, and this will allow me to take this forward in an attempt to resolve the issues surrounding smart meters in the village.

Thank you.
