Spanning nearly 9,800 km² of land and sea in southwest Scotland, the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere follows the rivers that wind down from the Galloway Hills—flowing through forests, farmland, historic villages, and towns before reaching the dramatic coastline.
This Biosphere is home to internationally significant wildlife and natural habitats.
As an organisation, it forges partnerships to promote conservation, education, and a thriving, sustainable local economy.
With a focus on climate resilience, the team is working alongside communities to mitigate environmental challenges, positioning Galloway and Southern Ayrshire as a vital contributor to Scotland’s mission of reaching Net Zero by 2045.
